Brushes won't turn on my Hoover Steam Vac F5914

I need either a repair manual or a good picture of the asssembly of my Hoover F5914-900 Vac/steam cleaner as the brushes have quit turning. Unit is nearly new.

Any amount is greatly appreciated and will help us to maintain this site for you.

  • Cliff,
Possible solutins to your problem: There should be a square post (approximately 1 1/2″ high)that is attached to your brush assembly. If the post is broken you will need to replace the brush assembly. Turn the machine sideways and look for the square hole in the turbine that the post from the brushes would fit into. Stick a flat blade srewdriver into the hole and try to turn it. If it does not turn easily then the turbine is probably bad and will have to be replaced
There are no repair manuals available but you can view a parts breakdown of your machnine at http://vacuumcleanershop.com/hvrmdlf5903.htm

I have the F5915 900 that is not listed and mine is doing the same thing. The 5915 is not listed and the brush for the 5914 looks the same. Will the same brush fit the 5915?

my hoover model no. is u5280-940 and the brushes don’t rotate

I have been told that there is a small filter on the bottom that can be pulled out with your fingertips, mine was red, and if that becomes clogged there will not be enough suction for the brushes to turn.

I have a model 7441-980 purcashed from Sams Club. Within the first year used it about 6 times the brushes stopped turning and the unit was replaced by Sams. I used the new one for a short period of time and the brushes stopped working on this one. Hoover directed me to THEIR Approved service center. I was told this was an on going problem w/ these cleaners and the bill for repair would be $190.00. DAH I only paid $235.00 for the unit new. I called and complained unitl someone listned in Customer Service. I was provided the option to replace the unit with any other of their products and recieved a 40% discount. Basically I feel they are producing a VERY poor product and should look else where for this item.

The Hoover spin brush steam vac series brush rotation is powered by the vacuum suction. The suction(with the water and dirt) goes through a fan that is hooked to the brushes and makes them turn. I had a flood the carpet stunk, put baking soda and borax (supposedly kills mold)down. sucked it up and it plugged the filter and turbine. Tore into the case and cleaned it all up and it worked for awhile. Is a little tricky lining up some of the hoses to reassemble it. Brush holder is also held by 4 clips, if one is broken it lets the brush assembly be misaligned and may keep it from turning. If you are not mechanically inclined look up the parts diagrams to see what is where and take pictures as you go to help remember how it goes back together. Can be done in about 1.5 hr with just a screwdriver

  • I had the same problem out of the box. The brushes would not turn. I took a screwdriver to turn the turnbine like Vacshop suggested. It would not turn, so I forced it just a little and it did loosen up. I took the front cover off where the spin brush indacator is so more air would be sucked into the turbine. It didn’t want to work at first but after a few minutes it brushes started working. It does make a big diffrence in the cleaning power having the brushes turning.

I did what vacshop suggested by turning the turbine hole with a screwdiver. After having it for two years with never having the brushes spin, loosening it actually made them work perfectly! Thank you.

How do you replace the turbine on a Hoover steam vac F5915-900

  • Phil

we hace the hoover steam vac f7425-900 and also experienced the turbine failing. Replaced the turbine and all is well. So i decided to find out why it failed. turns out the bearings in the turbined rusted and siezed. So now when we are done using the cleaner i always clean it up and leave the waste water container off with the brushes spinning and squirt some wd-40 into the the vacioum hole. then clean everything upagain to get the excess wd-40 off the bottom. be very careful since wd-40 is flamable. It has been four years since we have had any additional issues. so far so good. just had the drive brush break but not a big deal we have been using this cleaner for well over 4 years.

hope this helps someone out there.

Removed a clear plastic cover above spine indicator and cleaned dirt on a top of filer. It looks like metal screen. After that brushed started to spin much better.

  • PaPap

I followed Anna’s suggestion about cleaning the wire screen and now my cleaner works like new. Thanks for a great web page and special thanks to Anna. Keep up the good work.

What if the square hole turns, and the brush post is not broken, but the brushes still do not turn?
