How do I change the fan on an Oreck XL

Caution: Be sure your vacuum is unplugged from the electrical outlet before proceeding!

This procedure will work on almost any Oreck 8 lb Upright

  • Turn the vacuum upside down with the handle on the floor and the base against a work bench
  • Remove the screws from the base and remove the base
  • Remove the belt from the brush roll
  • Remove the screws that secure the motor/fancase/air duct to the base
  • Set the duct aside (# 28 above)
  • Pull the motor assembly away from the fan case
  • Remove the fan nut (Fan nut is reverse threaded-turn right to loosen)
  • Remove the old fan and replace with the new one ensuring that the felt washer is in place.
  • Do not overtighten the fan nut as it will tighten itself as it spins
