Check the power nozzle area (brush roll) section first for a broken belt or clog; some Whispertone canister power nozzles have a cover plate over the headlight, push in from the sides and lift up to remove the cover plate, then remove the two screws underneath. Turn the nozzle over and look for a release point on either side and pry out with a flat blade screwdriver to remove the complete top cover. Replace the broken belt or remove any clog from the pivot neck that the wands plug into.
Next, check the metal wands for any debris that might have gotten sucked up into them. Remove any clog with a broom handle or bent wire coat hanger.
Remove the hose from the canister and wands. Drop a coin in one end of the hose and hold the hose vertically. If the coin comes out the other end then your hose is clean. If not, then carefully use a bent coat hanger or small diameter plumber’s snake to try and remove the obstruction. (Caution, try not to snag the inside wall of your hose with the hanger or snake)
Open up your vacuum and check to make sure the bag is not too full. Also check the filter behind the bag. If the filter is dirty or clogged, clean it or change it.
Lastly, turn your canister over and check near the front castor wheel. Older Whispertone canisters had a habit of developing cracks near the front wheel, usually from being dropped but sometimes just from normal wear and tear. There’s really no fix for a crack or break here – you’d have to replace the whole body.

My Kenmore Progressive stopped suctioning. Thank you for this post. I printed it, grabbed a quarter, sent it down the tube and it didn’t come back.
I tried to send a snake down the tube and it didn’t get far. I finally whacked the end against the carpet and a chunk of dog hair fell out and then so did a bunch Christmas tree pine needles. With more whacks, more chunks of dog hair come toward the end which I helped out with a screw driver. Eventually the quarter made it through. Your post saved the day!

Re: Cleaning clogged vacuum hose/wand.
My husband & I are custodians of a 2 story seniors’ recreation hall with approximately 2000 square feet of carpeting throughout. Many times I have had the hose on the hall’s Kenmore Whispertone plug up on me & have found the fastest & simplest way to clear it is to place the wand end under our bathtub faucet with the hose laid out on tub bottom, then run water through it at fairly high pressure. Make sure water flow goes only INSIDE the wand. When clog & built up dirt are removed hang it over something high such as your shower curtain rod or balcony railing & let dry completely (at least one full day). I have done this countless times & have never harmed the controls in the wand.
Need a hose assembly complete for my Whispertone Kenmore Vacum with power nozzle head. must have two holes to connect power nozzle too.
please advise cost, availability, and how it would be shipped to 06883. Method of Payment accepted & warranty on item. Model 116.2531290, S#DE3158083 12.0 volts
