Replacement of Rainbow water pan latches

What is the proper proceedure for installing new water pan latches and springs on base unit?

  • The latch is secured to the housing with a brass pin. If you look at either side of the latch assembly, you can see the pin. The pin is smooth on one side and knurled on the other side to keep it from slipping out of the hole.

First remove the old pin; if you purchased a latch assembly which includes latch, pin and spring simply place the new pin up against the old pin and tap it out of the hole. A simple narrow punch tool will also work. Remove the old assembly.

To reassemble: the spring has a small hooked end on either side, the spring is assembled hook side down, the holes in the top of the spring will align with the holes in the housing, the latch is then placed over the spring so that the new brass pin can easily be tapped through (smooth side first); latch, spring and housing on one side with the knurled end of the pin all the way through to the other side of the latch..
