I have a four year old Bissell shampooer model 9300m……..c.  When I squeeze the trigger it releases water for about 5 seconds and stops in either floor or attachment mode.  I think it is the pump.  What say you?

  • Your Bissell is one of the 2X models. This line has a heater and way too many connections and tiny ports that constantly plug due to the sediment present in water. The heater just seems to speed the hardening of the sediment. If you have the time and patience; disconnect the tubing from the joints and clean out all the connections with a paper clip or needle. There is a white manifold on some models with 4 connections on it – make sure this is clean and the 2 screws are tight. If your heater has a screwed on cover, remove the cover and clean out the gunk, also clean out the ports on the heater with a paper clip. While it’s possible that your pump may indeed be bad, the only effective way to tell is by installing a new pump. Most vac shops we have talked to won’t even work on this series due to amount of time it takes to troubleshoot and repair. If you do get it working again, we suggest you fill the detergent bottle with white vinegar and run it through to clean out the tubing after each use.

  • I find the above to be the problem in 95% of the cases with the 2x machines.

Typically you can get by just unclogging the lower spray tips, and the spray tip in the hose, and then running water through the tubing (no soap). Sometimes you may need to repeat the process a few times to remove any excess residue in the tubing :)
