Question: My Rainbow E series vacuum smells like rubber burning when I use the carpet nozzle – what’s the problem.
Answer: There is a problem with the belt; it’s either stretched enough so that the motor shaft is spinning while the belt stays still or your brush roll is clogged with debris(or the brush roll bearings are bad) and the belt is just not strong enough to turn the brush roll.
Solutions: Refer to the drawing below;
- Turn the power nozzle upside down and remove the sole plate (key #25)
- Remove the brushroll and the belt (key #’s 24 & 14)
- Hold both brush roll end caps with your thumb and finger and try to spin the brush roll
- If the brush roll spins freely then it is probably OK
- If the brush roll does not spin freely; remove the end caps, check for and remove any hair/debris fro the bearings or bushings
- If the above step doesn’t help; replace the entire brushroll
- It’s also a good idea to replace the belt while you’re at it. Regular belt replacement (every 8 to 12 months) will keep your brush roll spinning at top speed

I cannot remove the sole plate. Is there a secret screw or lever to push?
