Rainbow D4 Fuse?

No power to motor on Rainbow D4.  Tracing the line we found a small silver fitting that looks like a diode. No power after (motor side ) of the thing.  Local Radio Shack can’t identify the small part, think it is a diode, but is it a fuse?  What is it and where can we get a replacement?

Thanks

  • The ‘diode’ on the field coil is the thermal fuse. There’s a reason it tripped. Either than pan was overfilled, or the machine was tipped – resulting in a drag on the separator. Rexair used to be able to provide ‘reworked’ field coils – but since the introduction of the Switched Reluctance motor on the E2 model, they no longer do. The correct solution is to purchase a new field coil. Very early models of D4 Rainbows had a thermal fuse separate from the field coil, these were 1986 models only. The correct repair, again, is the purchase of a new field coil with ‘built in’ thermal fuse. Field Coils are available commonly from Rexair to the vacuum industry through any of the wholesale suppliers.
