If your 6500 is overheating, the indicator light should come on and the machine will shut off.  Some of the causes could be; a clog in your hose or wands, bag is too full, or thermal switch is faulty.

If your 6500 is overheating, the indicator light should come on and the machine will shut off.  Some of the causes could be; a clog in your hose or wands, bag is too full, or thermal switch is faulty. Run the machine without the hose attached, if it doesn’t overheat then there is probably a clog in the hose. To remove the clog; hook the hose up to the blower port and snake the other end around to the front of the machine so that you are getting suction from one end and ehxaust from the other. If that doesn’t work, take a stiff wire or coat hanger and try to pull the clog out (BE CAREFUL WITH THIS. YOU DO NOT WANT TO SNAG THE THE INSULATION ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR HOSE.)
    If there is no clog then you may have a faulty thermal switch or other electrical problem. You may want to take your vacuum to a qualified Vacuum Cleaner Reapir Shop.

Don’t know where these parts should go.  Is there any way to get an exploded diagram of the power nozzle to figure this out?
